Public Market - Hamilton, Ontario
The Market has been in its current location next to the Hamilton Public Library since August 1980. The modern architectural design provides a mezzanine level and lower level, consisting of 176 stands and approximately 80 stallholders. All indoors!

There are rows of farm fresh produce from sun-ripened tomatoes, fresh picked apples, nuts, dried fruit, bright coloured flowers, lettuce crisp and fresh, the choicest cuts of meats, fish - the finest from the sea, fresh baked goods, tangy cheeses, tropical fruits and even coffee and donuts. Hours of operation include are Tuesdays 7a-6p, Thursdays 7a-6p, Fridays, 8a-6p & Saturdays, 6a-6p (The Market is closed on Mondays, Wednesdays, Sundays and all statutory holidays.
Originally founded in 1837, this indoors farmers market is located downtown at 55 York Blvd. and features the usual mix of local farm produce and ethnic specialties. The Hamilton Farmers Market is actually older than the city! It’s been rated one of the best farmers markets in Ontario, as goods are brought in from all over the Niagara garden belt.
The Market also offers a very strong supporting ethnic base, with many cultures being represented under one roof including: Italian, German, Hungarian, Caribbean, Asian and others. The Hamilton Farmers' Market is a cross-roads and meeting place for many.

Over the past 170 years the Hamilton Market has survived and prospered through eight Market renovations. The city regards the Market as a valuable asset for the City of Hamilton and an essential part of Hamilton's Urban Renewal Plan. Over the past several years, it has become clear that the Market has fallen behind in its design and aesthetic appeal, and in its ability to service the needs of today's customers. Over $5.1 million dollar are being set aside for upgrade.
A Greek Food Vendor. The Hamilton Farmers' Market Analysis and Action Plan was acted upon by the City Council. A public Hamilton Farmers' Market Idea meeting was held in February 2007. A Project Manager has been hired to oversee the renovation. The hiring of an architect for the project is in progress. A suitable location to move the Market, during the proposed renovations, is being sought.

The Welland Farmers’ Market has been centrally located on its present site since 1907. The current building was constructed in 1922. The market features over 60 vendors that include seasonal farmers and year round butchers, bakers, cheese shoppes, fish and poultry stands.

Locally grown fruits and vegetables, fresh cut flowers, poultry, cheese, eggs, honey homemade preserves and baked goods are available. Historically significant buildings surround the Market. The St. Catharines Farmers’ Market is one of the longest standing markets in the province of Ontario. The St. Catharines Market was referred to in the British American Journal of 1834.
