The Burczynski Bakery chain operated in Buffalo for 80-years before it closed in 1983. Its founder John Burczynski, a Polish immigrant, began by selling home-baked goods from a wagon at the Broadway Market. The family business eventually employed 150 workers at 20 retails outlets that included its headquarters at 179 Stanislaus Street and at the Broadway Market. Florian R. Burczynski, who was chairman of the board, passed away at the age of 78 on Jan. 4, 1990.
